YILDIRIM BEYAZID OVERPASS
ABOUT
The overpass, build by Büyükşehir Municipality, takes the name of the boulevard that it is built on; Yıldırım Beyazıt. It is located on the protocol road to the airport. Because of the location, the administration requested a monumental bridge from the architect. Today, if the existence of so-called suspended bridges on bearing walls are neglected, this bridge is the only suspended pedestrian footbridge. The cable carrier tecknology comes from abroad. Due to its sculptural form, it will serve as a reference point in Ankara. Bow-like shaped- bearing foots of the bridge lean back to the cliffs, favoring compliance to the topography. At the other end of the bridge there is no foot fixed, the bridge stands stady on the ground by the tie against horizontal displacements . Gross concrete footings , steel spine and stainless steel railings support the contemporary image.
