Municipality service building was constructed in Gölcük which recently suffered one of the most disastrous earthquakes in the world. It was worked out in a compact form which has a homogeneous use of the land both due to the requirement of using rigid forms and heavy schedule. The building is located in parallel to the Preveze Street in the north which determines the axis of the commercial centre of the district and to the İstanbul – Bursa high road in the south which has a very busy traffic. This location also allows convenient direction for the building. With the technologies of contemporary architectural lines, the Municipality building has an exemplary quality for Gölcük which is being restructured. The building shows that structures with high plastic values can be constructed in Gölcük to increase motivation despite the limitations of natural conditions. Entrances of the mayors unit and municipality service units are separate from each other. The atrium formed in the service section allows access of day lights from the roof to the ground floor. Transparent fronts rising along the building on both entrances axes provide the connection of the circulation areas with the exterior. In layout of the offices, plaster and glass partition panels were used to maintain the flexible and transparent space approach. The structure is reinforced concrete carcass while the roof is steel. Steel is light and it allows the use of broad skylight surfaces in the interior volume. The exterior has a massive and inclined granite coating and retracted by a transparent floor which provides lightness. Thus the eaves increase its influence and create wide shaded areas. The building was desired to provide its close environment with social and cultural contribution in addition to being a municipality building. The assembly hall in the program was intended to have multipurpose use and designed to function independently when necessary. The foyer intended to be on the lower floor of the assembly hall allows independent entrance for different uses.
